There are two main types of Botulinum toxins which are used in case of hyperhidrosis. They are

• Botulinum toxin-A
• Botulinum toxin-B

The most commonly used Botulinum toxin in treatment for hyperhidrosis is Botulinum toxin-A but in case when the patients fails to show any improvement in symptoms then Botulinum toxin-B can also be used.

The dosage for botox depends on the area treated.The dosage is as follows

The procedure for Botox injection is as follows

• Your dermatologist first cleans and shaves the area in case of underarms where Botox is to be injected
• Betadine solution is applied
• Then starch powder is sprinkled
• A very intense dark blue coloration shows a positive test for hyperhidrosis
• The area is cleaned
• The area is marked by sketch pen
• 1 unit per marked area of Botox is injected

The results are visible within 15 days following your Botox injections.

The results typically last for 6 to 8 months for Botox in case of hyperhidrosis.

Repeated injections can be needed after 8 months as required.

Botox is not indicated as a treatment option in patients who have any of the following disorder such as

• Eaton-Lambert Syndrome
• Myasthenia Gravis
• Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis
• Pregnancy

• Patients should avoid hot baths and showers for the day
• Avoid applying any kind of deodorants and perfumes for a period of 3 to 4 days
• If any mild swelling is present then apply some ice and take some mild painkiller if necessary.
• Normal activity can be started on the same day
